Stand your ground

Abraham Lincoln holds a special place in my heart, not only because of his stand against slavery but because of his unique ability to navigate political nightmares with finesse and wisdom. One of the key “Lincoln” characteristics that the 21st-century man would do well to imitate, is standing your ground.

In other words, after carefully considering a situation (and praying for God’s direction), make a decision and don’t let the opinions of others move you from it.

We all know that life is full of tough decisions and the right thing is not often popular (as was Abraham Lincoln’s experience). But, while it is wise to consult the opinions of others, it is unwise to let those opinions sway your judgment once your decision is made.

Your decision may not be the best choice and you may experience failure/disillusionment. But if you have done your best and stood by your guns, you can be proud of the fact that you stood by your convictions.

I would like to add that I am not speaking of situations involving crimes or things that are obviously negative/harmful to others. Also, there are times that we can be pushed toward better choices by listening to the wisdom of others. But if you have the tendency to vacillate, you will live a life of uncertainty.

In the end, it is not so important whether our decision was right or wrong… as long as it is ours.
