About a week after returning from our honeymoon in Paris, my father unexpectedly passed away. Then within the space of 5 years both of my husbands’ parents passed away as well. While we grieved for our parents, we clung to each other and became emotionally hardened at having experienced so many losses in such a short space of time.
From these experiences, we decided that we wouldn’t and shouldn’t waste whatever precious time we have together on arguments and silent treatments. That doesn’t mean my husband and I don’t argue. We occasionally do. However, when we don’t see eye to eye, we sit down and calmly explain our point of view while listening with an open mind.
We’ve realized that life is just too short to let something stand in the way of us enjoying each other and our marriage.
Think about how you would feel if your spouse was taken from you during the heat of an argument or before you had the chance to apologize for words said in anger. You’d probably regret everything you said and would wish you could say sorry.
Oh yeah, and that amount of time or days spent over the argument…can never return.
If we could add up the amount of time we spend in arguments during our lives it can be quite a lot. Put the time that you and your spouse have together to some better use: go on a date or do something that will have a positive impact on your marriage.
Life can have some unexpected bumps. Never take your spouse for granted.
Interesting post!

Through life we have many challenges. The best thing we can do is to learn from them and move on.
This was about 7 years ago… but my husband and I still practice this and always will. 😊
